Trinidad is named after the 16th Century city Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), listed by UNESCO. The city Trinidad is situated on Cuba’s south coast.
The brand Trinidad was founded in 1969 only made as a gift to foreign diplomats like the start of Cohiba. The Trinidad was made in the Cohiba factory El Laguito with the same tobacco as Cohiba. Only the tobacco for the Trinidad get 2 fermentations instead of the 3 fermentations for the Cohiba tobacco.
In February 1998 was the Trinidad cigars tax free released for public consumption with 1 model. The model is the same as the diplomatic one only this one is a slightly thicker. In time the brand Trinidad got more sizes, the Reyes, the Coloniales, Robusto Extra, Robusto T and the Vigia were added to the range. In 2012 the production of the Robusto T and Robusto Extra stopped.
By the end of 2004 demand for the Trinidad cigars was too big for the Cohiba factory thats why the production was moved. The new place for the making of the Trinidad cigars is Pinar del Rio City, the most important city of Vuelta Abajo.
